WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University triathlon team will add one more race to its 2024 season as they compete against Warren Wilson College on Saturday, April 12. The additional competition was scheduled following changes to Warren Wilson's fall sports season due to health and safety concerns after Hurricane Helene last Fall.
The Bison will send three student athletes to compete against the Owls.
Ashley Corcoran (Broussard, La.),
Kathe Wilken-Yoder (Ovideo, Fla.), and
Sam Michaelson (Southwick, Mass.)Â will be competing in the NCAA race against Warren Wilson. Two more Bison,
Danielle Fisher (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and
Mara Land (Dell Rapids, S.D.)Â will be joining Coach
Brian Bennett to participate in the general triathlon, each as one part of a relay.Â
"This competition is not just about racing—it's about supporting fellow triathletes and continuing to grow NCAA triathlon," said Bennett. "We're excited to compete against Warren Wilson and provide our athletes, especially those crossing the graduation stage in May, with one more chance to race together."
The Owls of Warren Wilson College will host the meet, marking a unique opportunity for Gallaudet's triathletes to engage with another program in the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie. The event also underscores the impact of triathlon on Gallaudet students, many of whom have developed a passion for the sport during their time at the university.
Gallaudet University has played a significant role in the recognition of triathlon as an NCAA sport, helping pave the way for its continued growth and inclusion at the collegiate level. The Bison's participation in this additional meet reflects their ongoing commitment to the sport and the broader NCAA triathlon community.
This additional meet follows the conclusion of the 2024 triathlon season, which officially wrapped up with the National Championships last November in Florida.
