WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University softball team recognized its graduating senior class prior to the start of Saturday's home doubleheader. Once the festivities subsided, Wilson College went to work and posted up back-to-back 12-run wins.
Gallaudet (3-21, 0-6 United East) dropped the first United East conference game, 12-2 in six innings followed by a 12-3 setback in five innings against Wilson (14-7, 3-1 United East).
Game 1: Wilson 12, Gallaudet 2 (F/6)
It was a low-scoring game at the GU Softball Complex as neither team scored in the first inning and Wilson only plated one run in the second and twice in the third.
Junior
Lacey Drolsbaugh (Lansdale, Pa.) got the start in the circle and was impressive with five strikeouts in the first two frames before being lifted in the third.
The Phoenix exploded for four runs in the fourth and sixth innings. GU got on the scoreboard with a run in the fourth and one in the fifth.
The game ended early after the Bison batted in the sixth due to the eight-run mercy rule.
Game 2: Wilson 12, Gallaudet 3 (F/5)
Wilson scored runs in every inning as the Phoenix built a 10-0 lead before GU got on the scoreboard with a run in the bottom of the fourth.
GU tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fifth, but it was not enough as the game ended by the eight-run mercy rule.
First year
Shaelyn Johnson (Redlands, Calif.) came through with a RBI double in the bottom of the fifth. Johnson came around to score on a RBI single by Drolsbaugh.
