Bison visit the GU Softball Complex against Notre Dame (Md.)

WASHINGTON – A slated away conference doubleheader got moved to the GU Softball Complex due to poor field conditions, so the Bison of Gallaudet University found themselves batting first Tuesday afternoon in the United East twinbill in their home ballpark.

It was Notre Dame of Maryland University (NDMU) that felt at home as the Gators swept Gallaudet (3-23, 0-8 United East) with two five-inning victories, 19-3 and 12-0.

The Gators (5-11, 5-2 United East) increased their win streak to five straight, all conference games, after they started the season 0-11.

GU led off the first game with a quick run in the top of the first inning before the "home" Gators scored 14 unanswered runs. NDMU plated 12 runs in the bottom of the second inning with two bases clearing doubles that brought in six runs alone.

The Bison got two runs back in the top of the third but that would be it for the Bison the rest of the way. Gallaudet junior outfielder Lacey Drolsbaugh (Lansdale, Pa.) led the buff and blue with two hits including a triple, single and a sacrifice fly. GU starting pitcher Anya Pothorski (Columbus, Ohio) took the loss in the circle.

In the second game, Gallaudet only tallied two first-inning hits that loaded the bases but the Bison couldn't push a run across the plate.

NDMU picked up where it left off and scored three runs in the bottom of the first, four in the second and five in the fourth to activate the eight-run mercy rule after five innings.

First-year pitcher Olivia Wascher (Noblesville, Ind.) threw a complete game in the shutout loss.
