Gallaudet wraps up first men's volleyball season in a dozen years

WASHINGTON – It was a tough draw for the Gallaudet University men's volleyball team to face the top United East conference team for its Senior Night as the Bison hosted the visiting Chargers on Wednesday night.

GU dropped a three-set match 10-25, 14-25, 16-25 to the defending conference champions in the Field House. Lancaster Bible (21-7, 8-0 United East), ranked No. 25 in the latest NCAA Division NPI (National Power Index) rankings, secures the top seed in the upcoming United East tournament.

Gallaudet concludes its first men's volleyball season since 2013 with an overall record of 5-17 and 2-6 in conference play.

Prior to the start of the match, graduating senior John Scarboro (Austin, Texas) was recognized on Senior Night.

For the first time this season, GU did not record a service ace.

First years Zachary Bippus (Fishers, Ind.) and Kodi Lee (Lehi, Utah) finished with five kills each. First-year setter Troy Holcomb (Fremont, Calif.) tallied 13 assists and four digs while Scarboro led the team with four blocks (one solo). Bippus added three blocks of his own. First-year libero Elian Zfati (Brooklyn, N.Y.) made a team-high nine digs in the loss.

Lancaster Bible was paced by setter Tyler Martin, who passed out 29 assists, and Jake Rotelle's match-high seven kills.
