Mbogo earns third CSC Academic All-District Men's Basketball honor

WASHINGTON  - The College Sports Communicators announced its 2024-25 Academic All-District® Men's Basketball Teams and Gallaudet University senior forward Blessed Mbogo (Silver Spring, Md.) landed on the Division III team.

Mbogo, a biology and psychology major, has a 3.89 grade point average and becomes the first Bison to earn Academic All-District® three times for men's basketball. Mbogo was named to the 2024-25 United East Men's Basketball All-Conference Second Team for second consecutive season. Mbogo finished the season with 380 points, 157 rebounds, 34 made 3-pointers, 26 steals, 23 assists and eight blocks in 23 games started for the Bison (3-21).

The GU men's basketball program now has 10 Academic All-District® honors since 2009-10. Gallaudet has 21 Academic All-America® honors in its history with five coming from the men's basketball program. The last Gallaudet men's basketball player to receive Academic All-America® honors was Noah Valencia (2019-20).

There are five representatives from a United East Conference program as four teams were represented. Lancaster Bible College led the way with two honorees while Cairn University, Gallaudet and Wilson College had one honoree each. Schools were limited to four nominations for this sport.

Outstanding student-athletes are nominated for Academic All-District® recognition by current dues-paying CSC members and must meet high academic and athletic standards. Eligible nominees will receive Academic All-District recognition.

The title Academic All-American is reserved for student-athletes who perform at an elite level in their sport and in the classroom.

To be eligible for College Sports Communicators Academic honors, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at their current institution and be nominated by their athletic communicator/sports information director. In 2023-24 a new requirement started, as student-athletes must compete in 90 percent of the institution's games/contests played or must start in at least 66 percent of the games/contests/matches to be eligible.

The Academic All-America men's basketball teams will be announced on Tuesday, April 15.
