Bison drop a pair to Kenyon

WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University softball team dropped a pair of non-conference games here Sunday at the GU Softball Complex to Kenyon College from Ohio. The Owls flew by the Bison, 25-0 and 17-3 in two five-inning games on a blustery afternoon.

Gallaudet (0-4) only had two hits in both games against Kenyon (2-0).

Game 1: Kenyon 25, Gallaudet 0 (F/5 innings)
The Owls scored three or more runs in four of five innings including an 11-run fourth. The Bison defense made 11 errors as first-year pitcher Kinsley Bond (Beulaville, N.C.) took the loss in the circle.

Junior outfielder Lacey Drolsbaugh (Lansdale, Pa.) and senior first baseman Caitlyn Smith (Indianapolis, Ind.) collected hits for the Bison.

Game 2: Kenyon 17, Gallaudet 3 (F/5 innings)
After Kenyon jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the top of the first the Bison battled back to tie the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the first.

Junior Lou Cherena (El Paso, Texas) tripled to left field to score Bond and Smith. Cherena later scored on a passed ball to knot the game at three.

The game remained tied up until the top of the third when Bison miscues allowed Kenyon to score four runs. The Owls went on to plate six in the fourth and four in the fifth.

GU's defense had five more errors in the field as Drolsbaugh (0-2) took the loss.
