Gallaudet shut out by Hood at home

WASHINGTON – Two softball teams entered Tuesday's non-conference doubleheader seeking their first win of the season. Unfortunately for Gallaudet University it was Hood College who left victorious with a pair of shutout victories.

Game 1: Hood 5, Gallaudet 0
Gallaudet (0-6) played hard in the first game but lost, 5-0, in seven innings. The Bison showed improvements in the field behind starting pitcher Lacey Drolsbaugh (Lansdale, Pa.). The game remained scoreless until the Blazers pushed across a run in the third inning and tacked on two runs in the sixth and seventh.

The Bison broke up the no-hit bid in the bottom of the seventh when senior Caitlyn Smith (Indianapolis, Ind.) singled to right field.
GU lined into a double play to end a game for the second time in four days.

Hood pitcher Rebecca Gottleib (1-2) went the distance and struck out 13 Bison batters.

Game 2: Hood 9, Gallaudet 0 (F/5 innings)
Hood (2-4) scored six runs in the second inning with half coming off the bat of Jocelyn Pfleiger, who homered to left field to drive in three runs. The Blazers scored once in the third and twice in the fifth to activate the eight-run mercy rule after five innings.

First-year pitcher Kinsley Bond (Beulaville, N.C.) took the loss in the circle as GU had two hits and two errors in the game. Drolsbaugh pitched the final three innings of the game.

GU's two singles came from sophomore Olivia Taufu'i (Blackfoot, Idaho) and first year Shaelyn Johnson (Riverside, Calif.).
