WASHINGTON – It was a day to celebrate a special group of graduating seniors on the Gallaudet University women's basketball team. The Bison rolled to a 93-46 victory over Cairn University in a United East conference game on Senior Day in the Field House.
Gallaudet (14-9, 11-3 United East) scored a season-high 93 points as 13 Bison players saw action including seven graduating seniors.
Before the start of the game the graduating senior group was recognized with their families, friends and teammates on hand. The group includes
Raj Guettler (Frederick, Md.),
Cam Lexow (Abington, Pa.),
Anya Pothorski (Columbus, Ohio),
Hannah Puent (Indianapolis, Ind.),
Alexis Roberts (Newton, Miss.),
Claire Ruiz-Tucker (Middletown, Md.) and
Crystal Salit (Boyds, Md.).
Five of the seniors finished the game in double figures. Lexow led the way with 20 points, 11 assists and was two steals shy of a triple-double with eight. Lexow's assists and steal totals are new career-high marks. Ruiz-Tucker was on fire as she made 8-of-9 shots from the floor to post a season-high 18 points and passed out six assists and grabbed five boards. Guettler added 14 points and seven rebounds.
Roberts had a solid game with 12 points and 11 rebounds off the bench to go with three assists, two steals and one block. Roberts also knocked down her first 3-pointer of the season. This was Roberts' fourth double-double of the season.
Salit matched Roberts with a season-high 12 points including a game-high three 3-pointers. Puent was limited to six minutes played but made one basket while Pothorski was sidelined in the game.
Cairn (1-19, 0-14 United East) was led offensively by Dezaray Bright's 16 points and five rebounds off the bench. Kailee Sobrino chipped in 14 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals in the loss.
