Gallaudet Pickleball Club takes third in the The Performance College Cup

RICHMOND, Va. – The Gallaudet University Pickleball Club team participated in the Performance College Cup here on Saturday all day. 

Two teams of Gallaudet played in the Challenger division: lower bracket. They played in the lower bracket. Lower means under the 3.65 DUPR bracket. DUPR are Dynamic Universal Pickleball Ratings, The two teams are Conrad Angelo Santos (San Diego, Calif.) and Callum Paterson (Ontario, Canada). While the second team are Trevin Adams (Riverside, Calif.) and Zion Ortiz (Frederick, Md.) 

Santos and Paterson went second overall in round robin with a record of 3-1 while Adams and Ortiz went fifth overall with a record of 0-4. 

Santos and Paterson advanced to the top eight from two pools (20 teams played) as #3 seed. In quarterfinals, Santos and Paterson beat #6 seed Division 1 school Duke University; Emilio Abelmann and J.D. Blitch in a thriller game with scores of 22-20 and 22-20. 

At the semi finals Santos and Paterson dropped the great and good battle in three sets against #2 seed D1 school, George Mason University; Nicolas Jackson and Will Roellke with a score of 21-18, 21-19, 26-25. 

Santos and Paterson won third place by forfeit as Duke University's player did not show up and Santos and Paterson earned bronze medal in out of 20 schools.

GMU Jackson and Roellke won the championship game over Randolph Morris University (RMU).

There are 20 teams (seven schools signed up) with 44 players participating in the challenger division. 

"Our players showed resilience and determination throughout the College Cup in Richmond, VA. Conrad, Callum, Trevin, and Zion stepped up against tough competition, proving that Gallaudet Pickleball belongs on this stage. Finishing second in the round-robin and advancing to the semifinals is a huge accomplishment, and our victory over Duke in the quarterfinals was a statement win. This is just the beginning of our program, and I'm incredibly proud of how our team competed and represented Gallaudet with heart and sportsmanship." said Gallaudet Pickleball Club advisor Justen Burns.
