Justen Burns

Burns was promoted to Gallaudet's softball head coach on Oct. 20, 2016 and enters his sixth season at the helm in 2023. This is Burns' ninth year overall with the Gallaudet athletics department where he also oversees Intramurals serving as the Intramurals Coordinator. 

Burns has been an assistant coach with the Gallaudet softball program for two seasons. GU won 14 games and five conference games in those two seasons.

Burns coached softball at Model Secondary School for the Deaf for seven seasons and won three National Deaf Prep Championships (2003, ’05, ’06) and at the California School for the Deaf-Fremont for six seasons (2009-14) and won two National Deaf Prep Championships (2009, ’13). He was named National Deaf Interscholastic Athletic Association (NDIAA) Coach of the Year  two times (2006, ’13). He also spent time coaching Kendall Demonstration Elementary School softball (1999).

Burns worked at the Model Secondary School for the Deaf as Residence Education Manager for close to a decade. He graduated from Gallaudet in 1998 and earned a master's degree from GU in 2006.

Burns resides in Washington, D.C., and has three sons (Jarrod, Jevon, Jyles).Â
