GU men's volleyball hosts first tri-match

WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University men's volleyball team dropped a tri-match here Saturday in the Field House as the Bison were swept by Randolph-Macon College and Immaculata University.

Gallaudet (0-4) lost its first match to the Yellow Jackets by the score of 12-25, 10-25, 15-25. The Bison had some time to regroup and rest before taking on the Mighty Macs in the third and final match of the day. The Bison hung tough and came close to winning a set but in the end they lost 17-25, 21-25, 19-25.

Randolph-Macon (7-4) swept Immaculata (2-1) in straight sets; 25-8, 25-19, 25-23 in the other match on Saturday.

First-year outside hitter Kodi Lee (Lehi, Utah) finished the day with 11 kills. First-year setter Troy Holcomb (Fremont, Calif.) passed out 24 assists and made 14 digs. First-year libero Elian Zfati (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded 10 digs. First-year opposite Zachary Bippus (Fishers, Ind.) played in the second match for the Bison and tallied eight kills, 10 digs and three blocks.

In the match between two first-year programs things were fairly even between the Bison and Mighty Macs. The two teams combined to make 38 service errors.

Gallaudet will make the short trip to Frederick, Md., this Thursday, Feb. 6, for a 7 p.m. non-conference game at Hood College (2-6).
