LA PLATA, Md. – Sophomore guard
Brandon Washington (Citronelle, Ala.) made a layup with one second left in the second half to send the Gallaudet University men's basketball team into overtime here Wednesday evening against College of Southern Maryland.
Gallaudet trailed the entire extra frame as the host knocked down two 3-pointers and led by nine points just over two minutes into overtime. The Bison turned the ball over four times during that span. The Hawks held onto win, 86-80, to spoil the debut of new Gallaudet Head Coach

Sophomore guard
Jory Valencia (Riverside, Calif.) led the Bison on offense with a new career-high 22 points to go with eight rebounds, four assists, three steals and one block in 42+ minutes played.
Washington set a new career-high with 15 points, nine rebounds, two assists and one steal. Fellow sophomore
Wyatt Carlson (Hubertus, Wis.) was the third Bison in double figures with a career-high 13 points and 12 boards for the double-double. Carlson made a career- and game-high four blocks.
Senior guard
Bruce Brewer Jr. (Santa Fe, N.M.) played nearly the entire game and finished with nine points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals. GU's fifth starter was first-year forward
Keanu Ray Boren (Frederick, Md.) who chipped in five points, four rebounds and three steals. Sophomore
Alex Ortman (Norway, Mich.) was the top scorer for GU off the bench with eight points and four boards.
Gallaudet (0-1) led 36-33 at the half and took an 11-point lead, 50-39, six minutes into the second half.
The Hawks were paced by Shamir Taylor, who scored a game-high 33 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the win.
College of Southern Maryland (4-0), a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), won its fourth straight game to begin the 2025-26 season.
Gallaudet became the first NCAA varsity team to play at College of Southern Maryland in recent memory dating back at least 13 years according to their records. The Bison are the only NCAA team the Hawks will face this season. For Gallaudet today's statistics count for program records but will not count towards NCAA statistics this season because the game was against a non-four-year college.
