WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University women's swimming team lost its home opener here Saturday in the Field House pool to Virginia Wesleyan University by the score of 152-54.
Virginia Wesleyan (2-2) won 12 of the 14 events against Gallaudet (0-4) in the non-conference meet.
The Bison won two of the 10 events it swam in and added five second-place finishes and two additional third-place performances.
First year
Hope MacPeek (Russellville, Ark.) won the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 14 minutes and 31.09 seconds. MacPeek's teammate
Alecia Miller (Litchfield, Ill.) was second in the same event with a time of 18:31.36.
First year
Adelle Patton (Puyallup, Wash.) won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:19.24. Patton added a second-place finish in the 50-yard backstroke (37.26).
MacPeek was second in the 500-yard freestyle as she touched the wall in 7:04.18 while teammate
Melany Salcedo Benavides (Woodbridge, Va.) was third with a time of 9:38.10.
Sophomore
Eliza Peterson (Snellville, Ga.) was second in the 50- and 100-yard breaststroke with times of 50.98 and 2:04.68, respectively.
First year
Youstina Alesha (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) took third in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 54.89 seconds.
GU's 200-yard freestyle relay team of Patton, MacPeek,
Jasmine Jimenez Lara (Gilroy, Calif.) and Salcedo Benavides finished third overall with a time of 2:35.

Gallaudet will begin its Atlantic East Conference schedule next Saturday, Nov. 8, at Cedar Crest College at 1 p.m. in Allentown, Pa. The Bison will swim against the Falcons (0-3, 0-1 Atlantic East) and Immaculata University (2-3, 0-2 Atlantic East).
