WASHINGTON – Gallaudet University men's basketball welcomed Bryn Athyn College, the top team in the United East, to the Field House for a conference game here Saturday afternoon.
The Bison pestered the Lions for the majority of the game and just missed knocking off the Lions as they escaped with a 59-56 win despite Gallaudet's big run late in the game.
Gallaudet (2-14, 2-6 United East) took the lead for the sixth time in the first half and played excellent with only three turnovers as Bryn Athyn (9-8, 7-1 United East) were up by one, 30-29, at the half.
The Lions jumped out big on the Bison with a 24-12 advantage in the first 12 minutes of the second half up, 53-40. GU responded with a 13-0 run in a five-minute span as a 3-pointer made by first-year guard
Jory Valencia (Riverside, Calif.) gave the Bison the lead 54-53 at the 3:32 mark. This was Gallaudet's first lead in over 30 minutes of play. Bryn Athyn replied back to finish the game with 6-2 to secure the win with a help of four points off Bison turnovers.

Brandon Chung (Kahului, Hawaii) added 14 points and grabbed eight boards. Chung was a perfect 4 for 4 at the free-throw line. Junior guard
Bruce Brewer Jr. (Santa Fe, N.M.) added 12 season-high points, passed for seven assists and grabbed six rebounds. Valencia added seven points and passed for five assists.
The Lions had four players in double figures led by senior guard Keith Bullock Jr. who scored 14 points.

Gallaudet will travel down to take on St. Mary's College of Maryland (9-7, 5-2 United East), this Wednesday, Jan. 22, at 7 p.m. in a conference game. Both teams will meet again for the third time as the Seahawks won both meetings this season.
