WASHINGTON – Gallaudet University was proud to host the 2024 Deaf International Basketball Federation (DIBF) 3x3 World Cup that was played in the Field House on Dec. 10-14.
The USA 1 women's team featured four former Bison basketball players;
Emelia Beldon, '22, Hannah Nield, '19,
Cassidy Perry, '24, and
Sabina Shysh '19. That team won gold after they defeated Ukraine 17-15.
The USA 1 men's team featured three former basketball players;
Jon Mowl, '09,
Orion Palmer '14 and
Andy Cruz, '18, along with Keanu Boren. That team won the bronze medal with a 21-14 victory over the Ukraine 2 men's team. Ukraine 1 won gold over the Poland men's team with a score of 22-10.
The USA 2 men's team featured two former basketball players;
Robert Haney Jr., '08, and
Shawn Daniels, '22, along with Joshua James and Stuart Jones. That team captured fifth place with a thrilling 16-15 win over Argentina.
The USA 2 women's team featured three former Bison basketball players;
Easter Fa'afiti, '11,
Jakkisha Smith, '21, and
Darriyan Thomas, '17 along with Tonisha Green. That team placed seventh overall after they defeated Sweden 1 with a score of 18-7.
There were approximately 600-700 spectators that attended the DIBF 3x3 World Cup in four days of competition. Gallaudet Athletics was excited to see other GU alumni back on campus as they represented and competed for their home countries.
