GU steps up to the challenge against UMES

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Gallaudet University men's basketball played a rare Monday evening game at University of Maryland Eastern Shore, a NCAA Division I program, in the Hytche Center before a crowd of 784. The Bison (0-4) had two players in double figures as the host Hawks (2-4) won, 113-58.

Gallaudet first-year guard Jory Valencia (Riverside, Calif.) led the way with 13 points, three rebounds and two assists while senior forward Blessed Mbogo (Silver Spring, Md.) continues to be a go-to player for the buff and blue. Mbogo finished with 12 points, two boards and two steals. A pair of Bison finished the game with eight points each, those players were senior Brandon Chung (Kahului, Hawaii) and first year Nabhi Abbushi Jr. (Fairfield, Calif.).

UMES drained 18 3-pointers as six Hawks reached double figures. The top-scorer in the game was Kyrell Shaw with 31 points, which included seven 3-pointers.

The Hawks scored the first nine points and led 57-22 at the half.
