VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Away in Virginia Beach, the Gallaudet University men's swim team of five suffered a double defeat in a non-conference double-dual meet to both Chowan University (2-1-1) and host Virginia Wesleyan University (1-4).
With the team's only silver finish of the meet, junior
Abdullah Alghamdi (Dammam, Saudi Arabia) completed the 50-yard breaststroke in 38.39 seconds, a new personal best.
Earning bronze elsewhere throughout the meet, first year
Alex Wilding (Santa Fe, N.M.) swam the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:28.25 and the 200-yard freestyle in 2:49.16. Just behind Wilding was first-year teammate
Allen Davis (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) who finished the 200-yard freestyle in 3:10.32. Also in third place came GU's 200-yard medley relay team consisting of first year
Driss Qukake, Wilding, Alghamdi and Davis.
BISON TRACKS
- Junior Sethan Rolofson (Gardner, Kan.) was fifth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:12.73) and the 100-yard IM (1:14.72) and sixth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:20.85)
- Qukake was seventh in the 50-yard freestyle (39.95) and fifth in the 50-yard butterfly (1:06.07)
- Wilding was fourth in the 50-yard butterfly (40.80)
- Alghamdi was fourth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:18.37) and sixth in the 100-yard IM (1:19.50)
