Season comes to a close for Gallaudet men's soccer

WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University men's soccer team finished off its 2024 season with a 5-0 loss to Wilson College here Saturday evening at Hotchkiss Field.

The Bison battled the Phoenix in a fairly even United East Conference game played in between the 20-yard markers on both sides of the field as the teams battled for possession and set pieces in an attempt to score.

Wilson (6-11, 2-6 United East) found the back of the net twice in the first half and three times in the final 45 minutes played to keep its postseason hopes alive. The Phoenix had lost their previous four matches by a combined score of 7-0. Wilson's goals were the first in a game since Oct. 5 when it defeated Bryn Athyn, 2-1.

The Phoenix were led by a hat trick from Luis Jimenez and two goals off the foot of Jace Williams (one assist), who scored the game's first and last goals in the 11th and 74th minutes, respectively.

Jimenez scored his first goal of the season off a corner kick from Eric Arbogast, who found Jimenez by the right post for the second goal of the game in the 34th minute. The Phoenix took a 2-0 lead into halftime.

Gallaudet (2-14, 1-7 United East) had its conference postseason hopes dashed as the Bison could only tally one shot in the game while Wilson finished with 23 (nine on goal).

Jimenez completed the hat trick with two quick goals at the 57:24  and 58:04 marks to put the game out of reach.

GU sophomore midfielder Samson Abraham (Seattle, Wash.) blasted the team's only shot of the game in the 66th minute as the shot went wide left of the goal.

Bison first-year goalie Luke McBrine (Weymouth, Mass.) took the loss in goal as he made four saves.

Wilson took nine corner kicks and held an 11-9 edge in fouls as both teams got two yellow cards apiece.
