Strong fourth quarter by Mary Washington ends Gallaudet’s win streak

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Gallaudet University women's basketball team had its seven-game win streak snapped here Saturday to University of Mary Washington, 67-53, before a crowd of 500 at the Ron Rosner Arena.

Gallaudet (13-7) got outscored 27-10 in the fourth quarter as Mary Washington's Jordan Carpenter scored 21 of her game-high 31 points over the final six and a half minutes. Carpenter made 10 of 11 shots from the field and surpassed 1,000 career points on the last basket.

The Bison led by as much as five points in the second quarter and took a 31-28 lead into halftime.

Mary Washington (12-6) and Gallaudet scored 12 points each in the third quarter between the non-conference opponents.

Senior forward Cassidy Perry (Frederick, Md.) finished with a double-double of 15 points and 15 rebounds to go with four assists and three blocks. First-year forward/guard Cam Lexow (Abington, Pa.) scored a team-high 16 points and passed out four assists, three steals and two boards. Senior guard Rajena Guettler (Frederick, Md.) was the third Bison in double figures with 10 points, eight rebounds and three assists.

Carpenter added 11 rebounds, three steals and two assists in addition to the 31 points. Keagan Schwab and Sydney Sherman scored 15 and 14 points, respectively.

This is Gallaudet's first loss in the month of January.

UP NEXT
Gallaudet jumps back into United East conference play this Tuesday, Jan. 30, at 7 p.m. against Penn St.-Harrisburg. It was the Nittany Lions (10-11, 7-1 United East) who handed the Bison (6-1 United East) their only conference loss this season back on Dec. 2 with a 74-66 defeat on the road.
