SCRANTON, Pa. - The Gallaudet University men's swimming team battled both Marywood University (6-7, 3-1 Atlantic East) and Cabrini University (2-5, 2-3 Atlantic East) here Saturday in a tri-meet hosted at Marywood's pool.
GU's four swimmers could not catch up to either school as the Bison (1-9, 0-5 Atlantic East) fell short to Marywood, 104-36, and Cabrini, 80-48. Marywood achieved a victory against each of its opponents as the Pacers defeated the Cavaliers, 76-68. This concludes the Atlantic East Conference schedule for the Bison.
Despite the results of the meet, the Bison had various victories among the races within.
Sophomore
Abdullah Alghamdi (Dammam, Saudi Arabia) was the first swimmer to finish in 100-yard IM with a time of 1:21.60, which is nearly 30 seconds faster than his previous personal record of 1:50.68.
With a second-place finish behind Quinn Grosvenor of Marywood (57.40), sophomore
Trent Mora (Austin, Texas) swam the 100-yard butterfly in 1:22.18 seconds. Mora finished third in the 500-yard freestyle (6:54.76).
With another nail-biting third-place finish, first year
William Nichols (Beavercreek, Ohio) finished the 50-yard freestyle (25.49) just behind Marywood's Johnny Wargins with 24.87 seconds. Cabrini's Michael Gray took home the 50-yard event with a top time of 22.62 seconds.
Sophomore
Skyler Officer (Skokie, Ill.) gained a new personal record of 1:32.18 in the 100-yard backstroke.
UP NEXT
Gallaudet's next meet will take place at home on Saturday, Jan. 27, at 1 p.m. for a non-conference meet against Goucher College and McDaniel College.
