WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University women's soccer team saw its three-game win streak snapped here Friday night under the lights at Hotchkiss Field in a 5-0 loss to Sweet Briar College in a non-conference game.
Gallaudet (3-3) only got one shot off as the Bison were forced to play the majority of the game in the defensive side of the field. Junior goalie
Lilian Nelson (Minneapolis, Minn.) made a season-high 20 saves in net.
Sweet Briar (1-3) scored several goals off free kicks and from far away as it tried to get the ball over the Bison defense. The Vixens held a 3-0 lead at the half as Jillian Lewis scored the game's first two goals off free kicks. The visitors added two more goals in the second half.
Prior to the start of the game the two teams came together to show solidarity during Mental Health Awareness Week at GU. Former Gallaudet student-athlete and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee member
Ariel Senics shared some comments about the importance of Mental Health and how to get help. Gallaudet's Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) staff handed out green shirts to fans to promote mental health awareness. If you are a Gallaudet student and you are in need of help please reach out to faculty and staff to help you. You can also reach out to CAPS atÂ
