LANCASTER, Pa. – Gallaudet University's softball playoff chances received a much-needed boost on Wednesday afternoon as the Bison defeated Lancaster Bible College, 7-2, to snap an eight-game losing streak. The Chargers salvaged a split as they took game two with a 4-1 win in the United East Conference doubleheader.
Gallaudet (12-20, 6-12 United East) sits in fifth place in the United East standings with six conference games left. The top four teams make the playoffs.
Freshman pitcher
Christina Elsbury (Uniontown, Ohio) threw a complete game in the first contest as she struck out four batters and only allowed two runs in seven innings pitched.
GU scored two runs in the third inning and five in the fifth to break open a 2-2 game. Sophomores
Elaine Swecker (San Diego, Calif.) and
Caitlyn Smith (Indianapolis, Ind.) had RBI triples in the fifth.
Lancaster Bible (8-20, 4-14 United East) scored one run in the third and one in the fourth inning.
In the second game, Gallaudet got on the scoreboard first again with a run in the top of the second inning.
The Chargers got that run back in the bottom of the third to knot the game at 1-1.
