LATHAM, N.Y. – The United East Conference announced its weekly conference student-athlete of the week awards for March 6 and Gallaudet University freshman Christina Elsbury (Uniontown, Ohio) was named Softball Pitcher of the Week.
Elsbury played a key role from the circle in all four of Gallaudet's games over the weekend, as helped the Bison begin the season with a 3-1 record. In the season-opening win against Wilson College, she tossed a complete game win as she struck out three as GU defeated the Phoenix for the first time since the 2017 season. The next day, Elsbury came in for the final inning of relief in game one against Notre Dame of Maryland University to earn the save. She turned around threw a complete game (seven innings) in a 2-1 win over the Gators as she allowed one run and struck out two. At the plate, Elsbury went 6-for-13 (.462), scored three runs, hit two doubles, one triple and drove in a team-high five RBI.
Penn St.-Berks senior outfielder Susan Duncan was selected as the Softball Player of the Week.
GU HONORS
This is Gallaudet's first United East Softball Player of the Week honor this season. This is Elsbury's second United East Player of the Week award in her career.
