Bison get doubled up by University of New England, 14-7

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Gallaudet University softball team dropped a 14-7 game to the hands of University of New England here Wednesday at the Fortune Road Athletic Complex.

Gallaudet (4-6) scored four runs in the bottom of the third thanks to a three-run double by sophomore Elaine Swecker (San Diego, Calif.) and an RBI single by Danyeal Davis (Newport News, Va.) that brought home Swecker. The four-run frame cut the Nor'easters lead down to one, 5-4.

New England (2-4) responded with three runs in the fourth and four in the fifth as the Nor'easters built a 12-5 advantage.

GU added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to get to within five runs, 12-7, but that was as close as the Bison got.

New England added a run in the sixth and seventh innings as the Nor'easters scored at least one run in every inning of the seven-inning game.

Davis, Swecker and freshman Christina Elsbury (Uniontown, Ohio) led the Bison with two hits each. Swecker led the Bison with three RBI and two runs scored.

Swecker (0-3) got the start and took the loss in the circle for the buff and blue.

New England starting pitcher Kara MacDonald (1-1) picked up the win. The Nor'easters smashed two home runs and tallied seven extra-base hits in the victory.

This game was originally scheduled for Monday, March 13, but rain and lightning that afternoon pushed the game to Wednesday morning.
