Pink clad Bison stampede past Wells in home win

WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University women's basketball team rolled to a 79-26 victory here Friday evening in the Field House.
 
Gallaudet (8-16, 7-8 United East), clad in hot pink and navy cancer awareness uniforms, participated in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) annual "Play4Kay" initiative to raise awareness for breast cancer research.
 
The Bison defense held the Express to single digits in every quarter as Gallaudet's offense overwhelmed Wells (0-24, 0-15 United East) en route to the 53-point win. GU led 20-8 after the first 10 minutes and took a 38-14 lead into halftime. The Bison outscored the Express 41-12 in the second half.
 
Junior forward Cassidy Perry (Frederick, Md.) dominated with 24 points, 18 rebounds, eight steals, seven assists and one block. This was Perry's 15th double-double this season and 43rd of her career.
 
Freshman guard Bree Goldstein (Riverside, Calif.) scored a career-high 16 points off the bench to go with six boards, three steals and two assists. Junior guard Rajena Guettler (Frederick, Md.) was the third Bison in double digits with 12 points, 12 rebounds, five steals and three assists. This was Guettler's first double-double this season.
 
Sophomore center Anya Pothorski (Indianapolis, Ind.) and sophomore forward Hannah Puent (Indianapolis, Ind.) were forces down in the paint as the pair set career-high totals for blocks in a game with four and three, respectively. The duo pair finished with eight points and seven rebounds each.
 
Freshman guard Olivia Brown (St. Augustine, Fla.) chipped in seven points while junior Serenity Fry (East Los Angeles, Calif.) and sophomore Jewel Rocha (Austin, Texas) tallied two points each.
 
The Bison finished the game with 59 rebounds, 25 assists, 18 steals and 10 blocks. The rebound and steal totals are team game-high marks for the season.
 
Wells was led by Ai Orita and Morgan Adams (13 rebounds) as the duo scored 12 points each in the loss.
 
UP NEXT
Gallaudet will close out the 2022-23 season at home tomorrow (Saturday, Feb. 18) at 1 p.m. against SUNY Morrisville (17-7, 13-2 United East) on Senior Day. The Bison were officially eliminated from the United East playoffs tonight as Penn College won its ninth conference game to clinch the No. 4 seed spot.
