GALLATIN, Tenn. - Gallaudet University saw its three-game women's basketball win streak snapped by Central (Iowa) College on the second and final day of The Music City Classic. The Dutch defeated the Bison, 83-50, in The Student Activities Center on the campus of Welch College.
Gallaudet (6-6) fell behind early as Central (7-5) jumped out to a quick 10-point lead (14-4) just five minutes into the game. The Bison battled back with five straight baskets to cut the lead down to 16-14 with a minute left in the opening quarter.
The Dutch pulled away in the second quarter as Central carried over a run in the first into the second and outscored the Bison, 11-0. Central kept Gallaudet at a distance the rest of the first half as the Dutch took a 41-26 lead into halftime.
Central outscored GU 42-24 in the second half and finished the game with 11 3-pointers made.
Senior
Rajena Guettler (Frederick, Md.) and junior
Claire Ruiz-Tucker (Frederick, Md.) scored 14 points apiece. Guettler led the Bison with four steals and was second on the team with seven rebounds while Ruiz-Tucker led the way with three assists. Senior forward
Cassidy Perry (Frederick, Md.) tallied a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds and made a game-high five blocks.
The Dutch had three player in double figures led by Abby Johnson (20 points) and Allison Van Gorp (12 points, 10 rebounds).
