WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University men's swim team dropped its 2023-24 home opener to McDaniel College here Saturday by the score of 148-19 in the Field House pool.

The meet marked the return of former Gallaudet swim coach Bill Snape, who is the new head coach at McDaniel. Snape coached at GU from 2004-12 and was the head coach for current Gallaudet head coach Brian Bennett. 

Sophomore Abdullah Alghamdi (Dammam, Saudi Arabia) finished second in the 50-yard freestyle (31.05) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:35.04). Alghamdi placed third in the 100-yard backstroke (1:28.42)

First-year Santiago Paiva (Louisville, Colo.) took third in the 200-yard freestyle (3:37.67) and 500-yard freestyle (11:09.00). Santiago finished fourth in the 100-yard freestyle (1:41.00)
