Time runs out on a Bison comeback at Penn College

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Time ran out on Gallaudet University here Friday night as the visiting Bison lost, 68-63, to Penn College in a United East Conference men's basketball game in the Bardo Gym.

Gallaudet (1-15, 0-7 United East) trailed by as much as 10 points but kept the contest within striking range throughout. The Bison got the margin down to four points in the final minute but couldn't tie Penn College (4-12, 3-4 United East) or regain the lead.

GU scored back-to-back 3-pointers to begin the game and led early 8-4. The Bison were up 12-9 with 14 minutes left before intermission. Over the course of the next 14 minutes Penn College outscored Gallaudet by double, 20-10, and took a 29-22 lead into halftime. 

Senior guard Preston Kelly (Indianapolis, Ind.) scored a game-high 22 points as he shot 50 percent from the field (8-for-16) which included three 3-pointers. Kelly added six assists and five rebounds. Junior guard Rory Lewis (Frederick, Md.) chipped in 16 points and four boards as he went 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. 

Penn College was led by four different players in double digits. Alex Cooper and Rees Watkins tallied 15 points each. Livingston Cross scored 14 points off the bench and Max Jackowsky recorded 12 points. Gavin Barrett passed out a game-high 10 assists in the win. The Wildcats scored 10 more points than GU from the charity stripe.

GU remains in Pennsylvania and will play tomorrow (Saturday, Jan. 21) in Reading, Pa., against Penn St.-Berks (4-9, 2-4 United East) at 3 p.m.
