Box Score 2 MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - The Gallaudet University softball team was swept here Saturday by Penn State Harrisburg in a United East Conference doubleheader. Gallaudet (3-25, 3-15 United East) lost 11-2 and 13-0 to Penn State Harrisburg (18-8, 12-2 United East) in five innings.
Game 1: Penn State Harrisburg 11, Gallaudet 2 (F/5)
The host Lions gave up four consecutive hits to the Bison in the top of the fourth inning as Gallaudet scored twice to break up a 10-0 score.
Sophomore Emma Giuntoli (Austin, Texas) got things started in the fourth with a single to right field. Freshman Elaine Swecker (San Diego, Calif.) followed with a double to right-center field to plate Giuntoli. Freshman Anya Pothorski (Indianapolis, Ind.) followed with a single to left to put runners at the corners. Freshman Isabella Paulone (Fishers, Ind.) singled home Swecker with a RBI hit to left.
Swecker (1-5) took the loss in the circle as she struck out two in the complete game. Penn State Harrisburg starting pitcher Carissa Yeager (14-4) threw a complete game where she struck out three.
Game 2: Penn State Harrisburg 13, Gallaudet 0 (F/5)
GU broke up a no-hit bid in the third inning with two hits off the bats of Paulone and fellow freshman Kaci Ketchum (Austin, Texas). The Bison added a third hit in the fifth from freshman Danyeal Davis (Newport News, Va.).
The Lions scored two runs in the first inning, three in the second and eight in the fourth on 11 hits off Pothorski (1-5), who struck out one.
Penn State Harrisburg starter Mary-Kate Penczkowski (4-4) threw the complete game shutout where she walked one and struck out two.
