GU drops United East opener at home to Penn State Harrisburg

WASHINGTON - Gallaudet University began its United East Conference schedule here Saturday in the Field House against Penn State Harrisburg and lost 93-53 in the women's basketball game.

Gallaudet (0-7, 0-1 United East) had a hard time keeping up with the Penn State Harrisburg (4-4, 1-0 United East) tempo in the opening half as the Lions pressed and scored relentlessly on the Bison. The Lions made 10 of their game-high 16 3-pointers in the opening 20 minutes of play as Penn State Harrisburg took a 52-21 lead into halftime.

The Lions picked up where they left off at the start of the third quarter as they outscored the Bison 27-14 before Gallaudet got the upper hand in the fourth quarter as the Bison outscored the Lions, 18-14. 

Gallaudet sophomore center Anya Pothorski (Indianapolis, Ind.) had a career day as she scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and added two blocks in 33 minutes played. Junior forward Cassidy Perry (Frederick, Md.) tallied a double-double of her own with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Perry passed out a game-high seven assists and made two blocks. GU finished the game with five blocks. Freshman guard Olivia Brown (St. Augustine, Fla.) finished with eight points and five rebounds.

Harrisburg was paced by guard Kendis Butler's 25-point game as she made 7 of 15 shots from 3-point range.

Gallaudet is in the midst of a three-game homestand and will next host The Catholic University of America (7-1) on Wednesday, Dec. 7, at 7 p.m.
