Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Gallaudet dukes it out with James Madison

HARRISONBURG, Va. – For the second time this season the Gallaudet University men's basketball team ventured out of Division III to play a Division I program. The Bison ventured south to face James Madison University here Saturday night and lost, 106-43, before a crowd of 3,642 in the Atlantic Union Bank Center.

The game is considered an exhibition for Gallaudet (1-7) but counts for James Madison (8-3).

GU hung around with the Dukes in the opening minutes. Junior guard Rory Lewis (Frederick, Md.) banked in a 3-pointer to get the Bison on the scoreboard at the 18:08 mark where JMU led 4-3. Sophomore forward Brandon Chung (Kahului, Hawaii) scored a basket in the paint a few minutes later as the Bison trailed by three, 8-5.

Sophomore forward Blessed Mbogo (Silver Spring, Md.) went to the foul line at the 13:26 mark and made both shots to trim the Dukes lead to one, 8-7. JMU opened things up with a 13-0 run and further increased its lead with a 19-4 run right before halftime. Gallaudet knocked down seven free throws as it trailed 45-20 at intermission.

Lewis began the second half much like he did to start the game with a 3-pointer less than a minute in. Sophomore guard Malosi Viena (Waipahu, Hawaii) made GU's other two 3-pointers in a one-minute span as the Bison trailed 63-31 with 14:46 left in the game.

It was all James Madison the rest of the way as the Dukes outscored the Bison, 43-12. The game was a great opportunity for Head Coach Kevin Kovacs to get 12 players in the contest against the Division I program.

Lewis finished with a team-high 11 points as he made three field goals, including two 3-pointers, and three points at the free-throw line. Viena finished with eight points off the bench while Chung tallied seven points, four rebounds and one block down low for the buff and blue.

James Madison had four players in double digits led by Vado Morse, who scored a game-high 22 points. Alonzo Sule finished with a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds and Terrence Edwards chipped in 15 points off the bench. Justin Amadi was the fourth Duke in double figures with 12 points and six points.
