SALISBURY, Md. - Gallaudet University's run through old Capital Athletic Conference men's basketball foes continued for a third straight game as the Bison traveled to Maryland's Eastern Shore on Tuesday to face Salisbury University in Maggs Physical Activities Center.
Gallaudet (1-3) got off to another hot start and led 8-0 eight minutes into the game and later extended the lead to 25-14 with six minutes left before the half. Salisbury (3-3) closed out the first half on a 17-4 run to take a 31-29 lead into the locker room.
GU regained the lead briefly in the second half, 34-31, just over a minute in before Salisbury went on a 12-0 run to take the lead for good en route to a 74-65 victory. The Bison closed the gap down to a point or two points, several times, but couldn't get in front of the Sea Gulls.
Senior guard Preston Kelly (Indianapolis, Ind.) made the fourth of his four 3-pointers with 34 seconds left to cut the Salisbury lead to four, 66-62. The Sea Gulls closed things out on the free-throw line where the maroon and gold made 10 of 10 in the final 49 seconds of play.
Kelly led all Bison with 19 points while fellow senior guard Corey Smith (Miami, Fla.) and junior guard Rory Lewis (Frederick, Md.) poured in 16 points each. Gallaudet made a season best 12 3-pointers as the buff and blue shot 52.2 percent (12-for-23) from long-range.
Salisbury was led by guard Brandon Craig (20 points, 11 rebounds, three blocks) and guard Greg Bloodsworth (19 points).
Gallaudet was a founding member of the defunct Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) which formed in 1989 and included the last three teams the Bison faced this season; Salisbury, St. Mary's College of Maryland and The Catholic University of America. The Seahawks and Cardinals were founding members. GU will face another former CAC member on Saturday.
