Bison begin Atlantic East Conference action with road trip to St. Mary's (Md.)

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The Gallaudet University men's swimming team began Atlantic East Conference play here Saturday on the road against St. Mary's College of Maryland. The Bison lost, 107-55, to the Seahawks at The Aquatics Center on the SMCM campus. 

Gallaudet (0-3, 0-1 AEC) started the meet with a second-place finish against St. Mary's (7-3, 2-0 AEC) in the 200-yard medley relay as the team of freshman Abdullah Alghamdi (Dammam, Saudi Arabia), sophomore Jules Yance (Danville, Ky.), freshman Keegan Wheeler (Brewerton, N.Y.), and freshman Anthony Ricks (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) posted a time of 2:41.66.

Freshman Aiden Magana (Kyle, Texas) finished second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:28.24. Wheeler took second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:49.34) while Alghamdi finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:39.20). Sophomore Bryant Gonzalez (Chicago, Ill.) finished second in the 500-yard freestyle (6:51.30). 

GU's 200-yard freestyle relay team of freshman Trent Mora (Austin, Texas), Magana, freshman David Sanchez (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Gonzalez earned first-place points as the Seahawks swam as exhibition. GU's relay touched the wall in 1:56.54.

St. Mary's won the first 10 events led by Robert Shively who won the 100-yard butterfly (55.97), 200-yard IM (2:09.94) and 500-yard freestyle (5:02.91).

BISON TRACKS

  • Mora was third in the 50-yard freestyle (26.78)
  • Alghamdi finished third in the 100-yard backstroke (1:41.18)

UP NEXT
Gallaudet will travel to Owings Mills, Md., next Saturday, Nov. 19, to swim against Stevenson University and Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham at 2:30 p.m.
