VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Gallaudet University men's swimming program got its 2022-23 season underway here at Virginia Wesleyan University on Saturday evening and swam well against the Marlins but lost the head-to-head matchup, 91-63.
Gallaudet's 200-yard medley relay team of Nick Hohrman (Fergus Falls, Minn.), Jules Yance (Danville, Ky.), Bryant Gonzalez (Chicago, Ill.) and Aiden Magana (Kyle, Texas) picked up some key team points with its first-place finish with a time of 2:11.54. Magana won the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:57.94 and placed third in the 50-yard freestyle (28.25).
The Marlins won nine of the 11 events between the two schools.
Hohrman finished second in the 100-yard backstroke (1:09.94) and 200-yard freestyle (2:16.06). Yance finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:30.20) while Gonzalez placed second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:13.49) and 1,000 yard freestyle (14:31.70).
This marked the first official swim meet for new Gallaudet swimming head coach Brian Bennett.
BISON TRACKS
- Freshman Keegan Wheeler (Brewerton, N.Y.) placed second in the 500-yard freestyle (8:36.20) and third in the 200-yard freestyle (3:02.63)
- Freshman Abdullah Alghamdi (Damman, Saudi Arabia) finished third in the 100-yard backstroke (1:38.64) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:55.37)
- Freshman Sethan Rolofson (Gardner, Kan.) took third in the 100-yard freestyle (1:08.41)
- The Bison wore special pink swim caps to show support for cancer awareness and research
