GU drops road game at Goucher, 79-73

TOWSON, Md. - Gallaudet University dropped a 79-73 non-conference men's basketball game to Goucher College here Wednesday night in the Decker Sports & Recreation Center.

Gallaudet (1-9) pulled to within one point, 64-63, with 4:23 left in regulation before Goucher (3-9) outscored the Bison 15-10 the rest of the way. The Gophers scored 10 of their 15 points from the free throw line.

Senior guard Noah Valencia (Riverside, Calif.) led the Bison with 26 points as he made 7 of 16 shots from 3-point range. Sophomore guard Corey Smith (Miami, Fla.) added 16 points off the bench. Senior center Steve Valencia-Biskupiak (Riverside, Calif.) chipped in nine points as the trio grabbed five rebounds each. 

For the second straight game, senior guard Dwayne Morton eclipsed 30 points as he made 10 of 16 shots (7-for-16 from 3-point range) for a game-high 33 points. Morton added eight rebounds, passed out six assists and made two steals.

GU took a 10-point lead, 35-25, at the 6:05 mark in the first half on a Valencia 3-pointer. Goucher battled back and went on a 12-2 run to close out the half as the teams were knotted at 37.

Gallaudet will jump back into North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play this weekend in the Field House. The Bison (1-0 NEAC) will play host to Wells College (1-8, 0-1 NEAC) on Saturday, Jan. 11, at 1 p.m.
