Box Score WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University men's soccer team picked up its second straight win on Sunday afternoon as the Bison shut out Penn College, 2-0, in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) game at Hotchkiss Field.
This is the first time GU men's soccer has won back-to-back games since the 2012 season.
Freshman forward Roel Gutierrez (Austin, Texas) continued to dominate the pitch, leading the way for the Bison, with two goals. The first goal came just five minutes into the contest. His first mark was setup by a long throw-in from junior midfielder Angel Ortiz (New York, N.Y.), who tossed the ball into the center of the goalie box where Gutierrez was able to get his head on the ball. Gutierrez's header got past Penn College goalie Hunter Gosnell (six saves).
It didn't take long for Gutierrez to record his second goal of the game. He darted down the field on the left side and used his foot skills to dribble past a Wildcat defender. Gutierrez was left alone against Gosnell and beat him with a low shot into the right corner of the net at the 15:23 mark.
GU (3-5-1, 2-2-1 NEAC) took its two-goal lead into halftime against Penn College (2-6, 1-3 NEAC).
The Wildcats began the second half with a lot of intensity as they fired a flurry of shots towards the Bison goal. Gallaudet's defense gave the attacking Wildcats minimal space to work with and allowed just one shot on goal in the second half.
The victories from the weekend have positioned the Bison nicely as they head into the month of October and a goal of reaching the conference playoffs.

QUOTABLE
"It feels great to win back-to-back games not only for these players but for the program. After the first half of the season, these two conference wins [this weekend] and a tie puts us in sixth place, in the hunt for a conference playoff bid. We are in a way better place than last year. We are in a place where a lot of people didn't expect us to be." Pedro Braz, Gallaudet University men's soccer head coach
