Box Score WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University men's soccer team lost its season opener here Friday evening, 2-0, to McDaniel College before a crowd of 238 at Hotchkiss Field.
McDaniel (1-1) started the first half strong with 15 shots but Gallaudet's defense led by freshman goalie Noah Means-Simonsen (Louisville, K.Y.) held their own. The Bison (0-1) recorded five shots in the scoreless first half.
Going into the second half, Gallaudet saw its best goal-scoring opportunity when freshman Roel Gutierrez (Austin, Texas) found some space up the middle of the field. However, heavy pressure by McDaniel's defenders forced his shot high over the goal.
Minutes later, an unfortunate bounce found its way off the head of a Bison defender and into Gallaudet's own goal. McDaniel's Greysen Brockbank broke down the left side of the field in the 76th minute and crossed the ball to Billy Rodgers who knocked it into the bottom right corner for his first goal of the season to cap the scoring.
