Box Score TAKOMA PARK, Md. - The Gallaudet University men's soccer team lost a heartbreaker here Wednesday evening under the lights against Washington Adventist University (WAU) in double overtime, 4-3.
The Shock (3-2) scored the game-winning goal with 10 seconds left in the second overtime period. Ferdinand Tadem-Djemo netted the game-winner on an unassisted shot past freshman goalie Noah Means-Simonsen (Louisville, Ky.). WAU scored the final three goals of the game.
The Bison (1-3-1) jumped out to an early lead just four minutes into the game when redshirt freshman Brian Espanto (San Antonio, Texas) found freshman striker Roel Gutierrez (Austin, Texas) who found the back of the net for his third goal of the season.
Just before the end of the half, Gutierriez set up freshman midfielder Jacob Guertler (Staunton, Va.), who scored his first collegiate goal, further expanding the gap between the Bison and the Shock. GU took a 2-0 lead into halftime.
Once again, the Bison found themselves in an extremely aggressive and emotional second half of play which saw several fouls and yellow cards.
Elam Lemus put Washington Adventist on the scoreboard in the 46th minute. Gutierrez and the Bison answered back in 54th minute making the score 3-1 and stretching the Bison lead to two goals for the second time in the game.
With only 10 minutes left in regulation, Elam Lemus shocked life back into his team as he narrowed the gap to one, 3-2, with his second goal of the game thus shifting the momentum in favor of Washington Adventist.
The Shock were able to force overtime when Dominic Atabongakeng knotted the game in the 85th minute.
The two teams played a scoreless first overtime period to begin extra time.
