Box Score 2 WILLOW STREET, Pa. - The slated North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) doubleheader for Gallaudet University on the road against Lancaster Bible College had to be moved back a few hours due to earlier rain and the two teams duked it out under the lights at Garrett Field. The teams split the two-game set as Gallaudet (10-14, 2-4 NEAC) held off the Chargers in the second game, 5-4, and the host won the first game 5-3.
Senior Rachel Sweigart (Big Rock, Ill.) doubled home a RBI in the third inning and two additional runs on a single in the fifth as GU led 5-0. The Chargers (2-12, 1-3 NEAC) battled back with three runs in the bottom of the fifth and pushed across a final run in the seventh but left a runner on second base.
Junior pitcher Montana Murphy (Simi Valley, Calif.) picked up the win as she pitched the complete game and allowed four runs (three earned) on nine hits, five walks and struck out four. Sophomore Chelsea Lee (South Brunswick, N.J.) finished 2-for-4, scored two runs and had a RBI in the win.
In the first game, Lancaster jumped to a quick 2-0 lead that grew to 3-0 and later held a 5-1 lead heading into the seventh. The Bison took advantage of two Charger errors and scored two runs but had a runner thrown out at home for the second out and another ground out ended the game as GU left the bases loaded.
Gallaudet had seven hits in the loss. Sweigart (5-7) allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits, three walks and five strikeouts in the circle for the Bison.
GU will host Wilson College on Saturday, April 5, for two conference games starting at 1 p.m.
