Box Score 2 WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University softball team dropped a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at the Softball Complex against Penn St.-Abington as they lost 7-2 and 9-3.
In the first game, GU (9-13, 1-3 NEAC) was limited to three hits, as sophomore infielder Chelsea Lee (South Brunswick, N.J.) had two hits and one RBI. Lee plated freshman outfielder Kimberly Klock (Puyallup, Wash.) in the bottom first inning with a single. Junior Elena Ciccarelli (Whitesboro, N.Y.) had the other hit for the Bison. Junior second baseman Mia Fernandez (Artesia, N.M.) hit a sacrifice fly to second base in the third inning to pick-up a RBI and score Lee.
Junior pitcher Montana Murphy (Simi Valley, Calif.) suffered the loss as she allowed seven runs (four earned) on 12 hits, three walks and three strikeouts. She is now 3-7 overall this season.
The Nittany Lions (3-1, 2-0 NEAC) jumped out to a quick lead again in the second game, putting up three runs in the first inning as the Bison fell behind early due to costly errors. Junior outfielder Victoria Rainey (Danvers, Ill.) blasted a solo home run to dead center field in the bottom of the seventh inning. She finished 2-for-3 at the plate to pace the Bison offense. Lee had two hits and a RBI in the loss.
Senior pitcher Rachel Sweigart (Big Rock, Ill.) took the loss as she pitched the complete game. Sweigart (5-6) surrendered nine runs (five earned) on 12 hits, no walks and struck out three.
GU will face Lancaster Bible College (1-11, 0-2 NEAC) on the road tomorrow (Wednesday, April 2) in a NEAC doubleheader at 3.p.m.
