Box Score 2 WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University softball team overmatched Valley Forge Christian College on a sunny and warm Saturday afternoon at the GU Softball Complex as the Bison won 13-0, 11-0 in five innings. GU (4-4) surrendered only four hits to the Patriots (0-2), completing two complete game shutouts.
Freshman center fielder Kimberly Klock (Puyallup, Wash.) had an inside-the-park home run that scored two in the first game. On the day, she was a combined 5-for-5, with two walks, six runs and four RBI. Junior second baseman Mia Fernandez (Artesia, N.M.) was 6-for-6 at the plate, with four runs scored, eight RBI and two doubles.
Senior starting pitcher Rachel Sweigart (Big Rock, Ill.) pitched a one-hitter in the first game as she walked two batters and struck out two. In the second game, junior Montana Murphy (Simi Valley, Calif.) pitched the Bison to victory as allowed three hits and recorded four strikeouts.
Gallaudet continues its 10-game homestand, to begin the season, on Wednesday, March 12, as the Bison welcome Trinity (D.C.) Washington University for a non-conference doubleheader at 3 p.m.
