Box Score 1 WASHINGTON – Every type of precipitation fell at Gallaudet University's Softball Complex on a frigid Sunday afternoon as the Bison and College of St. Elizabeth braved the elements for almost two games in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) opener for both teams.
The Screaming Eagles (3-5, 1-1 NEAC) held off a Bison comeback in the first game to win, 10-8, in a driving rain, with moments of hail, which descended on the turf surface. After a brief intermission the two teams regrouped and began the second game of the doubleheader.
Gallaudet (9-11, 1-1 NEAC) jumped out to a quick 6-2 lead before the rain precipitation turned into snow in the bottom of the third inning. St. Elizabeth made the decision it didn't want to continue the game in the current conditions and forfeited the game to Gallaudet. None of the statistics from the second game will count as GU receives a 7-0 forfeit victory.
Sophomore Chelsea Lee (South Brunswick, N.J.) led the Bison at the plate as she went 4-for-4 in the first game as she blasted a home run to center field in the sixth inning to go with two triples, three runs and three RBI. Junior pitcher Montana Murphy (Simi Valley, Calif.) took the loss as she surrendered 10 runs (seven earned) on 10 hits, walked five and struck out four.
St. Elizabeth had every batter collect at least one hit as third baseman Danesha Triplett led the way going 3-for-4 with a double, run and RBI. Christina Scolaro (2-1) picked up the win for the Screaming Eagles as she allowed eight runs (six earned) on eight hits, walked three and recorded one strikeout.
The Bison will defrost and prepare for a NEAC doubleheader with Penn St.-Abington on Tuesday, April 1, at 3 p.m.
