LITTLE RIVER, S.C. – Gallaudet University salvaged a split with non-conference softball foe Albright College on a cool Wednesday afternoon at the North Myrtle Beach Park and Sports Complex. The Bison hung on to win the second game of two, 3-2, after the Lions won the first game, 8-4.

Gallaudet (8-5) received a complete game victory from starting pitcher Rachel Sweigart (Big Rock, Ill.) The senior right-hander allowed two runs in the fourth inning as the Lions (2-3) collected 11 hits in the game. Sweigart (5-2) walked one batter and struck out two in the win. She helped her own cause at the plate as she went 2-for-4 with a triple, run and RBI. Sophomore Chelsea Lee (South Brunswick, N.J.) had GU's other extra-base hit with a RBI double in the first inning.

Albright pitcher Katie Civitello (2-3) took the loss as she allowed three runs on eight hits in seven innings where she walked two and struck out three batters.

In the first game, Albright jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead over GU as the Lions scored five runs in the top of the first inning against Bison starting pitcher Montana Murphy (Simi Valley, Calif.). The Bison cut the lead to three, 5-2, with two runs in the third but Albright continued to increase its lead with a run in the fifth and two in the seventh.

Catcher Amanda Toto and outfielder Megan Gaughan led the Albright offense with two hits each. Civitello won her second game of the season as she struck out four batters and allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits and two walks.

Murphy (3-3) took the loss as she surrendered eight runs (six earned) as handed out 10 walks and 10 hits and only had one strikeout. Sweigart went 3-for-4 at the plate with a RBI triple in the third inning. Lee (2-for-4) scored twice and had a RBI single in the third.

GU will next face Lasell College on Thursday, March 20, for a doubleheader.
