WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University
men's and women's swimming and diving teams hosted Wells College
and Ferrum College in a double dual meet for their last home meet
of the season. The men's team swept the meet defeating Wells,
119-72, and Ferrum, 123-61. The women's team split the meet
with a 106-93 win over Ferrum and a 107-94 loss to Wells, a North
Eastern Athletic Conference foe. The Express men's team beat Ferrum
73-59 and the women's team won 102-86 over the Panthers.
The men's team was led by senior DJ Everton-Lovell (Norfolk, Va.) who
placed first in the 200-yard individual medley (2:21.95) and
100-yard backstroke (1:04.26) and second in the 1,000-yard
freestyle (12:02.55). Junior Maurice Abenchuchan (St. Augustine,
Fla.) was also a force for the Bison as he recorded a first-place
finish in the 100-yard freestyle (55.70), second in the 100-yard
breaststroke (1:12.96) and third in the 50-yard freestyle (25.95).
Senior Tony Dall (Indianapolis, Ind.) and
junior Bernardo Toledo (Rio Piedras,
Puerto Rico) placed third in the 100-yard freestyle (1:04) and
200-yard freestyle (2:35.37), respectively.
The Gallaudet men's team placed first and second in the
200-yard medley relay contributing to the team's overall winning
score. The first-place team comprised of junior Abdiel Davila-Cruz (Orlando Fla.),
sophomore Myles Goldberg (Frederick,
Md.), freshman Ryan Klock and Dall recorded a
time of 2:06.28. The second team included sophomore Jason Scherrenberg (Ouderkerk aan de
Amstel, The Netherlands), Tony
Abshire, freshman Xuan Lin (Chicago, Ill.) and Toledo
who touched the wall at 2:51.22.
The Bison honored three seniors in Everton-Lovell, Dall and Larry Kohler Jr. (Union City, Calif.)
who participated in their last career home meet.
The Bison women were led by junior Alexandra Polivanchuk (Orebro, Sweden)
who finished first in the 200-yard individual medley (2:39.70),
100-yard breaststroke (1:17.01) and second in the 100-yard
backstroke touching the wall in 1:06.24. Freshman Molly Verseput (Upland, Calif.) placed
first in the 100-yard butterfly (1:11.95) and second in the
1,000-yard freestyle (12:35.79). Right behind Verseput in the
100-yard butterfly was junior Lisa Murphy (Bothell, Wash.) who
clocked in at 1:12.29. Senior Katie Giles (Gaithersburg, Md.)
recorded two third-place finishes in the 100-yard freestyle
(1:04.14) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:23.90). The
women's 400-yard freestyle relay team of freshman Paige-Cecily Ramos (New York, N.Y.),
sophomore Marla Rabenstein (Altoona,
Pa.), senior Christina Aboudi (Pleasanton, Calif.)
and senior Alyssa Gleason (Springfield,
Va.) finished third with a time of 5:57.00.
The women's team sends off four seniors in Aboudi, Giles,
Gleason, Lisa van der Mark
(Mijnsheerenland, The Netherlands) along with Murphy.
The men's and women's teams will travel to
Pennsylvania on Tuesday, Jan. 17, to face-off against
non-conference opponent York (Pa.) College at 6 p.m.
