WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University
men's and women's swimming and diving teams hosted
Bethany College for a non-conference meet at the Field House pool
on Saturday. Gallaudet's women's team kept it close but
was unable to overcome the Bethany Bison as they won, 146-127.
Bethany beat the Gallaudet men's team, 146-120.
The Bison women's 200-yard medley relay team started off
the meet with a first-place finish as junior Lisa
Murphy (Bothell, Wash.), senior Katie
Giles (Gaithersburg, Md.), senior Alexandra Polivanchuk (Orebro, Sweden) and
freshmen Thyra
Wood (Great Falls, Mont.) finished with a time of
2:08.30. Polivanchuk carried that success through the meet as she
added two more first place finishes in the 200-yard butterfly
(2:31.42) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:27.61) as well as a
second-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley (2:29.09).
Giles pitched in with two second place finishes in the 100 and
200-yard breaststroke with times of 1:19.93 and 2:54.66,
respectively. Murphy added two second place finishes of her own in
the 100-yard freestyle (1:03.52) and the 100-yard butterfly
(1:15.52). Freshman Molly Verseput (Upland, Calif.) placed first
in the 1,000-yard freestyle as she touched the wall in 12:25.91 and
placed second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:07.16.
Verseput, Giles, Wood and freshman Paige-Cecily Ramos (New York, N.Y.) closed out
the meet with a first place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay
(4:24.86).
The Bison men started off the meet with a second-place finish in
the 200-yard medley relay. Senior DJ Everton-Lovell (Norfolk, Va.), junior
Abdiel Davila-Cruz (Orlando, Fla.),
freshman Ryan
Klock (Puyallup, Wash.) and sophomore Maurice Abenchuchan (St. Augustine, Fla.)
finished the race in 1:54.42. Everton-Lovell went on to place first
in the 200-yard backstroke, clocking in at 2:12.01. Davila-Cruz
added a second place finish in the 100-yard backstroke as he
finished in 1:09.69. Abenchuchan was able to finish second in both
the 200-yard freestyle (2:09.40) and the 100-yard freestyle
(55.34). Sophomore Neal
Matthews (Kent Island, Md.) was able to finish first
in the 1-meter dive with a score of 149.62. The Bison men's
400-yard freestyle relay closed out the meet with a first place
finish as junior Bernardo Toledo (Río Piedras, Puerto
Rico), sophomore Myles Goldberg (Frederick, Md.), sophomore
Zachary Kohler (Union City, Calif.) and
senior Tony Dall (Indianapolis, Ind.) finished
with a time of 4:41.05.
The GU swimming and diving teams host Wells and Ferrum College
for a double dual meet on Saturday, Dec. 7, at 1 p.m. in the Field
House. This is the last home meet of the 2013-14 season and will be
the Bison swimmers senior day.
