FROSTBURG, Md. - Gallaudet University
men's and women's swimming and diving teams both fell to Frostburg
State University in the first meet of the year on the road
Saturday. The Bison men's team lost 112-89 while the women's team
was edged by 14 points, 109-95.
Gallaudet's men's team (0-1) won three of the 11 events against
the Bobcats. Senior DJ Everton-Lovell (Norfolk, Va.) led the men's
team as he won 800-meter freestyle (10 minutes, 37 seconds) and the
100 backstroke (1:09). He had a second-place finish in the 200 IM
(2:42). Sophomore Maurice Abenchuchan (St. Augustine, Fla.) took
first in the 100 freestyle (1:04) and second in the 50 freestyle
(27.86).
The Bison women's team (0-1) won four of the 11 events
against Frostburg led by junior Alexandra Polivanchuk (Orebro, Sweden), who
won all of her individual events; 200 IM (2:44), 100 butterfly
(1:13) and 100 breaststroke (1:24). Freshman Molly Verseput (Upland, Calif.) placed first
in the 200 freestyle (2:32) and second in the 400 freestyle
(5:33).
Gallaudet will host its home opener next Saturday (Oct. 26) at
11 a.m. in the Field House pool as the Bison compete against SUNY
Cobleskill in a matchup between two North Eastern Athletic
Conference teams.
