Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. – Gallaudet University hosted its first varsity men's volleyball game since 1984 as the Bison hosted Eastern Mennonite University on Tuesday night before a nice crowd of 300 at the Field House. GU elevated men's volleyball to varsity this past summer a year after playing at the club level.
The Bison (0-1) lost their first match of the 2013 season to the visiting Royals in straight sets, 3-0, as EMU won 25-7, 25-6, 25-8.
GU was outmatched upfront against the tall Royals. They were led upfront by Chris Moise and Marc Lovell, who had seven kills each. Moise had a game-high four service aces and three digs. EMU (1-0) recorded 10 aces against the Bison and 31 kills. Setter John Barry passed out 24 assists.
Freshman Andrew Biskupiak (Frederick, Md.) recorded one kill, one service ace and two digs to pace the Bison. Freshman setter Michael Korleski (Wilmington, Del.) tallied three assists in the loss.
The Bison will venture into North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play on Friday, Jan. 25, when GU travels to Lancaster Bible College for a 7 p.m. match.
