WASHINGTON, D.C. – Gallaudet University
welcomed back junior men's swimming star DJ
Everton-Lovell (Norfolk, Va.) on Saturday and sent off
three seniors as the Bison hosted their final regular-season meet
of the season at the Field House pool. GU welcomed North Eastern
Athletic Conference (NEAC) foe Cazenovia College and the two teams
tied in the end, 98-98.
Gallaudet (0-8-1) won three of the 12 men's swimming
events against the Wildcats. Everton-Lovell had a hand in two of
the three first-place victories for the Bison. He was a member of
the 400-yard medley relay that took first with a time of 4:50.81.
He later finished first in the 100 backstroke as he touched the
wall in 1:06.06. Everton-Lovell completed his day with a
second-place finish in the 200 freestyle (2:19.75) followed by
senior Jarvis Grindstaff (Frederick, Md.), who was
third (2:37.61).
Freshman Neal Matthews (Kent Island, Md.) won
the 1 meter diving event with 94.45 points while Cazenovia's
diver disqualified. Fellow freshman Miguel
Gutierrez (Lima, Peru) placed second in the 1,000
freestyle (14:20.53), 100 butterfly (1:17.72) and was fourth in the
500 freestyle (8:01.87).
Senior Daniel Katz-Hernandez (Montgomery
Village, Md.) finished second in the 100 freestyle (1:04.27), third
in the 50 free (28.25 seconds) and was fourth in the 100
breaststroke (1:35.79). Grindstaff took third in the 500 free
(7:44.13) in addition to his third-place finish in the 200 free.
Senior Jacob Klenk (Westerville, Ohio) did not
participate in today's final meet.
Sophomore Myles Goldberg (Frederick, Md.) was a
member of the first-place 400 medley relay and took second-place in
the 100 breaststroke (1:21.09). Junior Tony Dall
(Indianapolis, Ind.) and Ramnath Shenoy (Dale
City, Va.) were the other two members of the first-place relay
team. Dall took second in the 50 free (27.77) and was third in the
100 free (1:06.91). Shenoy placed second in the 200 IM (2:50.58)
and 500 free (6:59.55). Sophomore Bernardo Toledo
(Puerto Rico) was fourth in the 50 free (29.21) and 100 free
(1:09.34). The Bison 400 free relay finished second in the final
event of the meet.
Gallaudet's men's swimming team, the two-time
defending NEAC champions, will train over the next month
leading up to the 2013 NEAC championships being hosted by SUNY
Cobleskill on Feb. 15-17.
