Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. - Karlis Intsons (Riga, Latvia) scored two second half goals and Jean-Pierre Kanashiro (Springfield, Va.) pitched in another but Gallaudet University wasn't able to overcome a dominant first half by Keuka College as the Bison men's soccer team fell 6-3 on Sunday afternoon in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) game at Hotchkiss Field.
After falling into a 5-0 hole in the first half, the Bison offense came to life in the second half as Intsons and Kanashiro hooked up for a pair of goals to begin chipping away at the Storm's lead.
The Bison's first goal came in the 53rd minute when Kanashiro lofted the ball over Storm goalkeeper Preston Vick (six saves) as Intsons charged the net and punched the ball into the open net. In the 67th minute, freshman
Said Lakrik (Washington, D.C.) flipped the ball off his heel to Kanashiro, who sent a pass toward the right corner of the net. Vick came out to attempt and make the save but Intsons slid in to knock the ball into the goal. The tally is Intsons' third of the season. Kanashiro added his fourth goal of the year in the 78th minute when he bent a corner kick from the right side into the top left corner of the net, out of Vick's reach.
The Storm (5-2, 3-2 NEAC) got off to a quick start and scored just 20 seconds into the game when sophomore midfielder Austin Gerber scored the first of his two goals when he took a pass from forward John Mastrella (two assists) and knocked it past Bison goalkeeper Eric Setzer (Middletown, Md.). Teammate Nate Smith scored two goals of his own, midfielders Matt Hey and Nathan Schreiber each scored their first goals of the season in the victory. Setzer made 16 saves in the loss as Keuka placed 23 shots on net.
The Bison (2-6, 0-3 NEAC) look to snap their losing streak when they travel to New York to face NEAC foes SUNY Cobleskill and SUNYIT next weekend. The Bison return home on Saturday, Oct. 13, at 3 p.m. in a conference tilt against Morrisville State.
