Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Gallaudet University softball team were swept Saturday by North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) foe Penn St.-Berks. Gallaudet suffered an 8-3 loss in game one and never got any momentum going in game two as it fell 14-1 in five innings at the GU Softball Complex.

Gallaudet (5-23, 3-9 NEAC South) fell behind early in game one to Penn St.-Berks (9-19, 9-3 NEAC South) as it surrendered six runs in the first two innings. The Bison attempted to rally and scored a run in the third and fourth innings. Senior outfielder Easter Faafiti (Pittsburg, Calif.) drove in the first run of the game for the Bison with an infield single in the third. Freshman second baseman Mia Fernandez (Artesia, N.M.) singled in the fourth inning to cut the Nittany Lions lead to four, 6-2.

The Nittany Lions would put the game out of reach in the seventh inning when they pushed across two runs. Gallaudet tried to rally when Faafiti lined a ball down the right field line for an inside-the-park home run.

The inside-the-park home run capped off a good game for Faafiti as she finished 2-for-4 with two RBI. Faafiti also stole three bases and scored one run. Faafiti is second in the conference with 16 stolen bases. Fernandez finished game a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, one double and one RBI.

In the second game, the Bison fell behind early as they surrendered seven runs in the first two innings and only managed to score one run. Pitcher Devon Denker (2-5) helped her own cause as she finished 3-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI.

Junior shortstop Nicole O'Malley (Fredericksburg, Va.) drove Cantu in with a single. The Bison had trouble getting any offense going as they finished with only three hits in game two.

Freshman pitcher Montana Murphy (Simi Valley, Calif.) saw some relief action in game two as she struck out two batters and 3.2 innings.
